My Father, Lebanon

Lebanon,
The country I have not smelt, nor touched
The country never really in my thoughts.
The country I was told to love, told to respect
Mechanically praising from the land of my birth.

Lebanon, My Father,
Forever waiting, patiently,
behind your disobedient daughter

I turned my back on you
Prostituted your name,
Claimed another country as my own
While blocking your breeze
Pushing to reach me
Across the changing seas

Lebanon, my beautiful Father
I am now naked, shivering at your feet
Your breeze, once ignored
tortures me
Slashing me with the cries, the fear, the helplessness of your people

My people.....

LEBANON! Ya Bouba*, do you hear me?!

I am sorry, so desperately sorry.

Your disobedient daughter has returned
Your flag has been placed on my naked shoulders
Covering my shame
As I walk through a strangers street, praising your name

"Lebanon, Lebanon, Lebanon"

*'Ya Bouba' means 'Oh My Father' in Arabic.

I Like what u said about ur self:
"I am buried treasure, no one knows where I am and no one has bothered to look for me. But one day I will be discovered and how much glory I will give...."

Sometimes I feel this way..

Thankyou Haider. It had to be said for Jews, Muslims and Christians alike....If only people would follow the path of peace, how beautiful our world would be.....

Peace starts in our homes, we have to teach our children to respect all religions and all nationalities in order for them to be respected...

The honour is mine, Haider... :-)

I'm so glad that my words meant something to you. Thankyou for your lovely comment. Even if one person connects with your work, that is a poets greatest acheivement...

Are you Lebanese? I was under the impression that Australia was your Nation - that Australia deserved your loyalty for feeding, clothing, sheltering you and giving you a secure, safe place to lay your head at night. We should never turn our back on evil in the world and do our best to pray for and help ALL people and countries in distress - but - we should never forget OUR flag, OUR people, OUR Country! My parents were born in Lebanon, but they chose this country and love this country - We are Australian.
